They will stand before God,
for they seek the pleasure of God’s face,
the God of Jacob.
Psalm 24:6 TPT
The call of the intercessor is the highest calling on a person. I believe it’s a higher calling even than any of the 5-fold ministry gifts and offices of apostle, prophet, teacher, pastor, or evangelist, because it’s the call that Jesus stands in now, making intercession for us. After Jesus gave His life and went to the cross, after He died and was resurrected, He rose and took His seat at the right hand of the Father, and now He makes intercession for us. (Romans 8:34) Jesus, the great Intercessor, is our Advocate, our great Defender. He is always pleading our case before the Father, like a defense lawyer on our behalf.
This position of the intercessor is our high call and position as well. In the great exchange (our life laid down to receive His) we receive this high call as an intercessor to stand with Jesus before the Father on behalf of others. We acknowledge the blood that was shed, the blood of Jesus that lays upon the mercy seat speaking of our redeemed and justified position before the Father. We are redeemed back to the Father as children of God, favored, blessed, empowered, abundantly provided for, and prospering for His glory. As an intercessor we carry the burdens of others to the throne of God, and we call and draw upon the mercies and grace of the Father on their behalf. We remind the Father of what the blood purchased for them, reminding Him of His promises. God tells us in His Word, “Put Me in remembrance, let us argue our case together; state your cause, so that you may be proved right.” (Isaiah 43:26 NASB) God wants us to know well His Word and promises so we can stand strong in our position for ourselves and on behalf of others. A good lawyer knows the laws and will be able to present a strong case for the one he is defending. That is what we are to do for others like Jesus is doing for us.
Take your call as an intercessor seriously. Feed upon God’s Word. Know His truths and promises. Stand in your high call and position. Carry the heart of the Father for His children and for the world. He is looking for intercessors. He is looking for those that will stand in the gap that He can show Himself strong on their behalf.
For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout
the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf
of those whose heart is loyal to Him.
2 Chronicles 16:9 NKJV
